Im going to say something surprising (perhaps):
Sometimes I wonder - why are we doing this?
Now I’m going to answer that question resolutely(?)
some
I’ve noticed something within the scene - some people turn up and just get it - maybe they take a few events to get in the swing of things - but they dive in and make things happen and bring so much energy
roughly in order they arrived, off the top of my head: lu, boggo, laura, jane, nadya, joey, kay, adrian, chau, bee, nkosi, miki, you?
others have lots of work and other commitments and dip in and out more (and thats completely okay) so that list is actually much longer - mike, jon, peter, dea, shaan, stephen, greg, yinuo, and many more (i’ve prob missed you, I’m sorry ๐)
heart
we live in one of the beating hearts of global capitalism, under pressure to pay rent and bills, its a small miracle that anyone can find the time to follow this path of computery expression
but really, as much as we need to survive, we need to be alive - to dance and socialise and sing and
we need to be alive
we need to do more than simply exist
we should celebrate life and each other
the goose
what is the essence of capitalism to the commoner? It’s that feeling that you need to keep up, grind away, sacrifice your positive energies for negative ones -
we all sometimes feel that we need to be be doing the ‘proper’, ‘serious’ stuff - which is natural - but very little of this is going into ‘productive’ work - mostly we’re barging and elbowing and pushing for our teensy slice of the pie - our clothes and food are made elsewhere - we make houses and sofas and tv programmes, we produce ‘society’ (badly).
can you see what I mean?
stop
I cant stop -
i can’t stop making music
i can’t stop helping run events
echo
we’re doing something special, resisting, carving out a tiny corner of something in this crazy world, being as healthy and happy as we can (we owe that to ourselves and others)
what we are doing will echo down the ages
ps. I miss the meetups, the last one was lovely, I feel they are a gateway drug for the wider scene.
they’re not so much effort to put on, and fun too. i’m thinking book one in bi-monthly if no one has beaten me to it <3
geese
The law locks up the man or woman
Who steals the goose from off the common
But leaves the greater villain loose
Who steals the common from the goose.
