Destinations

They say that life is a journey not a destination. Which is very true. There’s no one place you ‘arrive’ at. Things are constantly changing and evolving. You adapt, grow, learn. New things pop into view, others fade out or end abruptly.

temptation

It might be tempting to see AlgoRythms in this light.
Where does it go next? Where is it building towards?
But relfecting on that today, I began to wonder, maybe AlgoRhythms is a destination?
Like, it works.
Sure, things shift, we try different things, learn things - last night with a lot of work from the venue we were about to stream live in high definition to the internet!
Which pastagang kindly hosted on their youtube channel here

But while some might be tempted to want more or see it as a step to something else - I kinda do that :w
subconsciously - maybe this is it.
A room where people get together and do creative-y computer-y stuff and have a whole lot of fun doing so.
That is something. That is a great thing.

expansion

I think for the live coding scene in general there are so many possibilites for different events, which AlgoRhythms can be a nuturing ground for too.
Different ways to connect people and give them a way for self-expression.

And there are some things that are continually happening - seeing participants confidence grow over time, and people talk about feeling re-energised - this sends out ripples of positive vibes out into the world which is something we really need right now.

difference

With all the geo-political events that have been happening in recent years - well lets not mince our words - wars, genocide, heavy bombardment of civilian populations, denial of aid, food water etc.
With all of that you might think - how can we get together in a room and have fun?
Well, do you think the victims of those things are helped in any way by us sitting around being miserable?
We have seen political statements on genocide and against ai-nonsense at events which is a great if small gesture. We have also seen one workshop to raise funds and awareness.
Plus thousands raised by the community internationally.
But there is something else - the more we re-energise, the more we can fight back against imperialism and hegemony.
I don’t know exactly how humans fall into the trap of these <bad> things. But we need to help each other out of it - by making our voices heard - developing understanding and compassion - seeking change.
I don’t do enough personally for sure, but if you have suggestions I’d like to hear them.

Peace out <3
